In fifth grade I had a clear understanding of my life’s purpose, to help people. Early, the threads of who I would become were being formed. These threads manifested themselves in many shapes, forms and colors.
Later, I started a new thread to be woven into who I am. In 1995 I went to SHI School of Medical Massage. This began what has been one of the most satisfying aspects of my life, my massage work. Initially, as a massage therapist, I thought doing a good job and being thorough was enough. Over time, what I have learned from working with my clients and various teachers has stewed and simmered into the most delicious offering. Like the best chicken soup warms, nourishes and heals. I have had the good fortune to study many modalities of massage. And, I have many spiritual journeys and teachings to heart.
I am a mother, a grandmother, a partner, a wife, and a good friend to many. This all fills me. I have explored the physical body: running marathons, yoga, spinning, and weightlifting. I know where all those secret hurt spaces lurk, physically and emotionally.
I think the essential nature of people is love. To paraphrase Anne Frank, whose autobiography I’ve read many times: It has been my singular motivation to help show people the truth of who they. It is easy for me to see the good, loving heart of people. Even more striking than a persons eye or hair color, their noble heart jumps right out at me. I am compelled to share that back to the person I see. I show my love for them and the love they are with my hands.
My dear hands have held so many beautiful people. I have a special relationship to my hands. They is the tool I use to connect mind, body, and soul. They are my art brush, my musical instrument, and my expression of love. All of this resides in my heart, but my hands are the outward manifestation. I do this for all, no one escapes. I use humor, life stories, and even cajoling when I advise people ways in which they can feel better. The better someone feels, the easier it is for them to express their hearts. However, as I age, I feel less like telling and more like planting seeds. I know when nutured, the seeds will grow into self care and self love. Self love is for each of us to discover at just in the right time. It will all work out. I will continue to radiate love through my hands at my favorite spot Body of Eden Healing Center with all my friends, colleagues and fellow travelers.
